Each college and career/trade school may have its own deadline. Check with the school you’re interested in attending. You may also want to ask about the school’s definition of an application deadline. For example, the deadline could be the date your FAFSA form is processed or the date the school receives your processed FAFSA data. If you are not married, have a child and are under the age 23 then you are a dependent of your parents. They must submit their information for the FSA program along with yours. If you are 24 years of age, then you will be considered independent.

If you are an individual that has been living on your own with no financial help and your parents are out of the picture. You must provide proof and submit documentation to the federal government via your college for you to be considered eligible.

Create a FAFSA account and login: Create an account and get an FSA ID (a combination username and password). You can use your FSA ID right away to sign and submit your first FAFSA form. But to use your FSA ID for anything else, you will have to wait up to three days for your information to be confirmed by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Log in to the FAFSA if you already have an account.

If you apply for a loan, you must sign a Master Promissory Note: ​​​​​​An MPN is a legal document that contains the Borrower’s Rights and Responsibilities and Terms and Conditions for repayment. Direct PLUS and Direct Subsidized / Unsubsidized loans have different MPNs. An MPN can also be good for up to 10 years if certain enrollment requirements are met. After you finish your program, you will be required to do the EXIT Council before you have left the college.
